PSAT Information

Dear Parents and Students,
On Wednesday October 13th, all eighth graders will take the PSAT at Ewing Middle. Taking the PSAT encourages students to start thinking about life after high school, about college and career goals, and about the education needed to reach those goals.
Students can prepare for this exam by reviewing the information that has been shared with their teachers (so that the teachers can share with the students). Additionally, PSAT practice tests are available through Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/sat) and NISD College and Career Readiness websites (https://www.nisdtx.org/departments/college_and_career_readiness)
Cherokee County School District (CCSD) provides all students the academic opportunities needed to prepare them for college and beyond. Participation in the PSAT is an important step in preparing for college. Every CCSD 8th grader is automatically registered to participate in the PSAT.
Khan Academy, partnering with College Board, released free interactive practice programs to support students to familiarize themselves with the redesigned exam. The customized test preparation will offer skill based videos to support students taking the PSAT. When students get their test results, they can connect their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to get free personalized SAT study recommendations.
Taking the PSAT provides the following advantages to students:
It measures the reading, math, and writing skills needed for college (and for success in most jobs and careers in today’s world). After the test, a score report will tell students how their skills measure up.
Prepares students for the new redesigned SAT.
The Student Search Service gives PSAT test takers the option to voluntarily place their names and addresses in a pool of college-bound students interested in receiving admission and financial aid information from certified colleges, universities and scholarship agencies.
Provides practice recommendations on Kahn Academy.
● 8th Graders who score well can qualify to be a Junior Scholar.
● Juniors who score well may qualify for National Merit Recognition and Scholarships and the South Carolina Junior Scholars Program.
● It provides valuable information to parents and students on student potential for advanced academics in high school.
● Score Reports will be distributed around February 2027. Along with the score reports, PSAT test takers will receive a unique access code to gain access to an online score reporting portal. From there students have access to all the college and career exploration programs available on College Board.
Every CCSD 8th grader is automatically registered to participate in the PSAT at their home campus on October 13th, 2026.
What should students bring on test day?
● No. 2 pencils with erasers
● Charged laptop and charger (in case the laptop starts to run low on battery during testing)
● On October 13th, 2026, all 8th grade students will take the PSAT from approx 8:30 am until 12:00 noon.
