Winter Formal Dress Code
Winter Formal is a special night for Ewing Middle students. We have implemented a dress code for the formal, and as such, any students not appropriately dressed will be turned away at the door. There are so many beautiful, tasteful, and appropriate dresses and young men’s apparel available for the formal. If you have questions concerning your dress or outfit, it is your responsibility to seek prior approval from the school administration. Students will be made aware that while formal dress is desired, it is not required, and church dresses or apparel are acceptable as long as they adhere to the school dress code. Thank you so much.
● Dresses may be strapless (if they fit properly) or include spaghetti straps.
● Dresses may not be cut below the bust line. No plunging necklines.
● 2-piece dresses should cover mid-section.
● Long dresses may have a slit that ends just above the knee.
● Short or cocktail dresses must be at least 3 inches above the knee or longer.
● Undergarments should not be visible.
● Coat and tie are desired but are not mandatory.
● No t-shirts or sleeveless shirts. Boys should wear a collared shirt or polo.
● Dress pants or khakis are desired. Jeans are allowed but cannot have holes in them.
● Pants must be worn at waistline.
● No caps or hats.
● Tennis shoes or flat dress shoes. No heels are permitted on the gym floor.
If you are unsure if your garment meets the above criteria, you may text or email us a picture or bring the garment by the school.
We are giving away free prom dresses and young men’s apparel for those who may need attire to wear to the formal. As our giveaways are dependent upon donations, these items are provided on a first come first served basis and we may be limited as to what we can provide. Please contact Amy Spencer with questions at 864-206-2449 or email her at amy.spencer@cherokee1.org. Your student may also go by the main office to fill out a form to request a dress or outfit. They will then be called for a fitting.
Dear Parents:
We will have our Winter Formal on Friday, January 16th in the school gymnasium from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Doors for the dance will open at 5:45 p.m. Once the dance is over, all students will remain in the gym where their names will be called when their ride arrives to pick them up. No students will be allowed to leave the school walking. All students must be picked up promptly at 9:00. Students who are picked up late may not be permitted to attend future dances
Please discuss the following with your student. We need your cooperation to make this Winter Formal a success. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Amy Spencer at 864-206-2449.
1. Admission will be $10.00 at the door. There will be no advance ticket sales.
2. Only Ewing Middle School students and approved guests will be admitted to the dance. A guest permission form is available in the main office. Completed forms must be turned in to Ms. Spencer by Friday, January 9th, to be considered for approval.
3. Students may only invite one guest that is not a Ewing Middle student. Guest must be in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. Alternative school students and students who have been assigned to the district’s alternative program are not allowed to attend.
4. Students will be expected to wear appropriate attire. Formal or cocktail dresses and a collared shirt with coat and tie is desired but not required. Skirts/dresses must be fingertip length, dresses may not be low cut in the front, and shirts/dresses may not be transparent/see through.
5. Parents are asked to drop their student(s) off at the main entrance.
6. Parents are asked to pick their student(s) up at 9:00 p.m. in front of the gym. Students will remain in the gym until their name is called to go home. No student may leave the building walking. In an effort to avoid traffic congestion and long pickup times, we will observe afternoon car line pick up rules and route traffic through the lower fence entrance.
7. No students will be permitted to leave the dance prior to 9:00 p.m. unless there is an emergency situation. In that instance, parents will have to come into the school to get them. Parents will wait in a designated area as they are not allowed into the dance.
8. Food items and drinks will be served to the students free of charge.
9. Inappropriate dancing and/or behavior will result in disciplinary action and the student(s) will not be permitted to attend future dances.
10. Students are not to run, push, inappropriately touch others, or go into closed sections of the building as doing so could result in disciplinary action
11. Discipline resulting in OSS or 3 discipline referrals received by any student from December 18th thru January 16th, will be reviewed by school administration and a determination will be made if the student will be allowed to attend the dance. Out of school suspension received prior to December 18th will not keep a student from attending the dance.
12. Students are responsible for their belongings and should not leave them on the table, floor, or in other areas unattended. Ewing Middle or Cherokee County Schools assumes no responsibility for loss or theft of items.
13. School officials will remain with students until parents arrive at the end of the dance. Please make sure you arrive on time to pick up your student(s).
Only teachers, staff and parents who volunteered and have been approved through a background check by Ewing Middle School and CCSD will serve as chaperones, no other adults will be allowed into the dance.

Students who wish to bring a guest to the Winter Formal are required to fill out this form and turn it into the office by Friday, January 9th. School administration will approve or deny the request based on information received. Only students in grades 6, 7, & 8 may attend.

Ewing Middle School will have our Winter Formal on Friday, January 16th, 2026 in the school cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Please read and go over the following rules with your student. · No guests will be admitted without this completed form on file. · Guests must arrive and depart with the host student that invited them. · Guests and their host student will be asked to leave if there is any inappropriate behavior. · All guests must abide by the Ewing Middle School and CCSD rules and code of conduct. · Guests should check with the host student to make sure they comply with the dress code. I understand the expectations stated above and give permission for my student to attend this event. My student agrees to follow all Ewing Middle School rules and to comply with instructions from chaperons of the Winter Formal. My student has allergies and/or a medical condition. Medical information needed by the host school is written on the back of this form.
